Lyric, a 7-year-old boy battling cancer, received the gift of a lifetime when his wish to go to the North Pole was granted last month.
Throughout Lyric's young life, he has dealt with more than most do in a lifetime. Lyric has loved trains since before he could fully walk. Lyric's wish was inspired by his favorite movie, The Polar Express
. According to his mom, even though The Polar Express
is a popular holiday movie, it is played on repeat, year-round at their house. His interest in the North Pole is credited towards the movie.
Upon arrival to the Union Station Hotel, Lyric and his family checked into their Polar Express themed suite. When they entered their hotel room, they were greeted with a fully decorated room, including a Christmas tree courtesy of the hotel. In addition, Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas provided stockings full of goodies. Santa even left a gift for each child waiting under the brightly lit Christmas tree. Lyric unwrapped his gift and underneath the wrapping paper was a Polar Express train set! Lyric's face lit up and he immediately asked for batteries.
The family was given matching Christmas pajamas for the train ride to reflect the iconic scene from The Polar Express
movie. The family loaded onto the train and settled into their first class seats; the anticipation for Lyric and his two brothers was almost unbearable. Finally, the time came, and it was all aboard the Polar Express.
"Lyric's wish is a true testament to the type of creativity and imagination our wish kids are capable of when given the opportunity to express it through a wish. This type of wish invited the entire community to be a part of something truly magical - the power of a wish."
